Wayne, Most of the time, I contributed to newsletters when I was selling something, a mutual fund or a hedge fund, that I managed. There was no compensation other than free publicity. For contributing to SI's Internet Financial Connection, I get some nice t-shirts. So far, although it is fun once in a while and having my name in print was valuable in selling funds I managed, it is not a good career choice. Of course, I haven't been asked to contribute to Value Line, either, so there may be better paying alternatives for those who hook on to best sellers.
