But NT still has not overtaken Novell's NetWare, which is still more widely used for file/print services, directory services, and communications services, according to Kusnetzky.

Not good. This is a potential nightmare. Does anyone know of third party programs to provide better protection for RCONSOLE? I cannot believe Novell has no planned fix. Unloading REMOTE on a WAN is simply unthinkable. Auditing the .NCF is fine but damage will be done no matter what if that even comes into play. DOH!

Simply not happy at this moment,

David

2 things to add:

1) this scenario assumes someone has physical access to the server to read the actual line in the file noted.
2) Console One will replace RCONSOLE as the utility of choice to manage remote servers.

Currently ConsoleOne will perform some functions you would do via RCONSOLE but not entirely. I believe Novell's plan to move entirely to ConsoleOne is within the next 6-9 months for beta.

This may not be of any consolace but it's something to look forward to.
