that column makes me so mad. It is a dazzling bald-faced showcase of institutional hypocrisy. The media are nobody's friend except their own. The parents don't owe a damned thing to journalists. It seems a little self -serving, doesn't it? "Don't forget your friends in the information services industry!! Boat payment coming up, y'know." The kid's parents have their plates pretty full already trying to piece together where they went wrong. Messy public self-dissection serves only ... the journalists. It does harm to the parents and does nothing at all for the rest of the country. If there are other kids out there contemplating their own Littleton - they'll view the proceedings with contempt - not tribulation.
