"I heard that it operates on the 26th of EVERY month -- is it just more severe in
April?"

Good question. I know it popped up about 6 months ago, and one system that I know of died, but this one in particularly nasty on the 26th of April. (like the article mentioned...same day as the Chernobyl disaster)

"Have you repaired computers that were damaged by this virus?"

In a way. The one I did work on needed a new motherboard since the BIOS was soldered on the board unlike the more popular socketed variety. The hard-drive was intact however. If a few do land on my desk on Tuesday/Wednesday I might have to get a replacement BIOS chip from the board manufacturer.

"The so-called CIH or "space filler" virus originated in
Asia last summer and hits on the 26th of each month.
The CIH 1.2 that appears only once a year in April is
the "most prevalent and dangerous" form of the virus
