I am in agreement with much of what you say. I am a card carrying liberal and was almost shot by a group of punks. Then my house was broken into in Denver . I relunctantly purchased a weapon for protection and would gladly turn it in if we could get rid of them all. Fact of life is we can't or won't. Anyhow my home was broken into again and my weapon stolen. I am having difficulties imagining who has it and what it is being used for. This weapon can be traced back to me if used in a felony and I have no proof of ownership, nada. There are many good, well intentioned gunowners out there that want some form of individual and or home protection. A service like the one mentioned will afford protection to them as well as people like me who in reality does not want to see the further proliferation of weapons. The fact remains the weapons already out there not covered by the Brady bill can be lost or stolen and they are unregistered. This applies to collectors items. Wouldn't it be a good idea for the honest, law abiding citizen to be able to offer voluntarily where his weapon has gone if sold or to maybe get the bad guys or if lost to protect his rights? I think so.

WT,
If those kids in Colorado hadn't had guns they may well have set off all the bombs thereby killing everybody in the building instead of the thirteen they did kill before taking their own lives. If the teacher who died had had a concealed handgun there might have been only two deaths. If those kids had a reason to suspect that a teacher or janitor was carrying they might have reconsidered. You like most anti-gunners fail to acknowledge the fact that guns save many lives because the homeowner scares off the burglar, rapist et al. by brandishing a gun not to mention all the thugs who don't break in out of fear that the occupant may be armed. Explain to me why violent crime of all types has gone DOWN in the states that have relaxed the concealed carry rules.

There is no doubt that domestic altercations sometimes end in a shooting because a gun is handy. Would getting your head bashed by a baseball bat or your intestines sliced by a butcher knife be any less fatal? Guess we better ban bats and knives too. While we are at it lets ban propane tanks and steel pipe as someone like those kids in
Colorado may use them to make bombs. Of course we will have to ban fertilizer and diesel fuel too so another McVeigh doesn't blow something up.

As to automatic weapons they are already illegal but that doesn't stop gangs from using them.

If we do what you want the criminals in this country will have a field day because they will have ALL of the guns. I am certain that outlawing guns would be just as affective as the expensive sixty year old War on Drugs the results of which is more drugs, stronger drugs, more availability. A school kid has an easier time getting marijuana or crack than they do the legal drugs alcohol or tobacco. Yeah, let's do the same thing with guns, NOT!!!

I'm new here so bear with me. I am going to read the entire thread and respond as I see fit.

For example, your statement "For example, automatic weapons, such as assault rifles should be banned completely.." Is media based BS and untrue.

Fully automatic weapons have been illegal to own, manufacture, or sell in this country since 1968. The law is already on the books. you need a Class III FFL to own one or even hold one, which means God has blessed you in the review of your application for this license.

An assualt rifle is merely a weapon the looks like a combat rifle and is a semi-automatic rifle. Modifying a semi-automatic rifle is illegal. There are a lot of people who shoot at the highest levels of competition with these weapons because they are accurate.
