Direct Vendors Gateway and Dell Increase Share of Household PCs

Luciano,
Looks like Dell is also gaining market share in the US household PC market,which as you know is a fairly new segment for DELL.BTW how is the PC biz in Italy these days,is Dell making any headway????

Take care and watch out for them Germans.<vbg>
========================

Direct vendors, Gateway and Dell, both increased their US household PC market share in the first two months of 1999, taking the No.2 and No. 4 positions respectively. Gateway's increase in market share builds upon its traditional strength among US consumers. Dell's increase, on the other hand, shows that the Austin-based PC manufacturer has started to take the consumer market more seriously. In the past, Dell focused almost exclusively upon the workplace market, but in recent months has stated its intentions to diversify into the household market. Dell's market share increase - from 5.9% in 1Q 1998 to 9.0% in the first two months of 1999 - is the largest percentage gain for any of the top ten vendors. Packard Bell and IBM were the victims to Dell and Gateway's gains while Compaq remained in the top spot.
