<-OT-->Would it be terribly rude of me if I say to you -'Hey Larry put a cork on it,enuf already with this HAL business.'?

May be you should let HAL and Elaine Gazarelli(?) get together,I hear she got some proprietary formulae and everything, who knows may be she and HAL can make beautiful music together, think about it.<vbg>

Larry,

I have no idea whether you or other readers of this thread are interested, but there is an article in the February, 1999 issue of Scientific American that contains comments by the author, Mandelbrot, regarding the appropriateness of using the normal distribution in studies such as Sharpe's because the underlying assumptions are not met.

Without any understanding as to the relationship among Sharpe's ratio, the probability distribution time function you refer to and HAL, there is no information as to whether Mandelbrot would also find the buy and sell signals put forth by HAL unsupported.

The above comments are not put forth to take a position but rather to give any interested reader an opportunity to learn more about the subject.
