Japanese banks' share in global market halved: BOJ

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The combined share of Japanese banks in the international
banking market has more than halved to 17% as of the end of September
1998 from 36% on March 31, 1990, the Bank of Japan (BOJ) said
Saturday.
The share shrinkage stemmed from a rapid cutback of overseas
assets by Japanese banks, spurred by massive bad loans they
accumulated after the early 1990s burst of Japan's asset-inflated
''bubble'' economy, the central bank said.
