Good post.

It must be possible to add up all expenses, losses etc. FC had within the years and that + a fair goodwill must be returned to ALU when FC is brought public. ALU stinks, and they killed a good pre-IPO apprechiation play.

A shareholder can never be interested in the bare "funding" of an affiliate - usually the risks of any failure, sunk costs etc are carried but - a funding reaping away any equity growth is not what a equity stake holder (of ALU) likes to see. If I don't want to participate on the chances of a venture (and clearly bear no risk), I buy debt certificates or put the money into a savings account.
