I don't think that the intent is to inflate earnings artificially. However, I do agree that the potential dilution should be clearer. But what about the timing issues? How could one account for the potential impact of all options' being exercised? It is ludicrously penalizing to assume that all are exercised at once; they clearly are not. Moreover, people with options can leave, options unexercised.
