WT,

Yes there are "gun nuts" but thanks for agreeing that we aren't all "nuts" because we have guns.

I never claimed that NY's crime rate went down because a lot of people were carrying concealed weapons so please don't pretend I did.

re>I also have a much bigger problem with people being able to obtain modified assault
rifles. What is the purpose for anyone to own these? You asked me about gun
shows and I can tell you that I have been to shows, seen the automatic pistols that
have been modified to require one pull per bullet and been told how to modify them
if I wanted to.<

To clear up your confusion...

Semi-auto = fire once for every trigger pull
Automatic = fire until trigger is released or clip is empty

A semi-auto pistol will fire once per trigger pull WITHOUT modification. On rereading your quote above I guess you meant the Auto pistol was modified to Semi so it would be legal. If so, you did understand the difference. So called assault rifles, while they look like military weapons, are SEMI-AUTO just like the deer hunter's rifle. The ONLY difference is the appearance. In use they are exactly the same, one shot per trigger pull, it is easy to put a huge clip on either if one wants to, or modify either to be full auto. Most states limit the size of the clip that you can use.

As for the fact that anyone can find out how to modify a semi-auto to an auto... I am sure you are not calling for abolishing the First Amendment although you seem to be willing to get rid of the Second. Personally I am much more afraid of the government than my gun owning neighbor.

My main point in this discussion is that banning guns simply can't work, even if we rounded up every weapon, legal or illegal in the US the criminal element would immediately smuggle in millions more and while the store owner would be unarmed the thug would soon have another gun.

We would have as much luck trying to get rid of tornadoes by banning the wind. Pass all the laws you want but the wind, like the criminal, isn't going to listen.

I also spent time in Nam (3 1/2years)3rdmardiv.Emotional? Yes I'm emotional. I am sick and tired of commie coward klinton and the other socilalist punishing me for the actions of others. If my country trusted me enough to issue me weapons, all the ammo I could carry and said killem all and let God sort it out, why am I restricted now? I am the same person. I have many weapons and none of them have hurt anyone. If you chose to be unarmed that is your right and I fought for your rights, so why restrict mine? fastgunslinger
