Exactly so, Jubimer. Love that flexibility. More to barter with than cash. One of its distinct advantages ...also an advantage of early entry .... is that by sharing geometrically growing expertise and technologies you can take a small stake in a broad range of young firebrands. Some will fail (little lost)...a few will succeed in a big way (a great deal gained). Making valuable allies and partnerships in common interest along the way.Coalition building.
Got nostalgic for the painful old days ....so apologies ...but reposting a portion of one of my posts from the days of Mid December when the price was still down. When a rally fails in the future...looking at it will make me feel better. Alot has improved in 4 months...don't really need the analgesics anymore...
<<the possibility that they will bring the
finest tech ( as Ed mentioned) to a holding company website and put that tech and their
patents and the location and funding at the service of a variety of very young companies
addressing the web....along with perhaps some substantial larger allies. They might well
be buying fresh ideas and minds rather than full blown companies in the usual sense. If
that is the case what I personally like about the approach is its potential flexibility. What
works can be spun...what doesn't can be dropped. Nice blend of AXC's technical and
financial strengths and resources and name with new minds to develop patents ...new
ideas for usage of the tech and hosts. Interesting potential structure for a business plan.
The goal perhaps to someday be the " Thermo Electron" of net stocks. Await actual
details eagerly. Will sure take time to unfold though. The saga continues........ (
unfortunately da pain does too..... hey...who hid my analgesic samples?!? <g> )>>

And Safeguard is a better model still...and I think you are right on the money with that Jubimer. There really is a world of potential here...much better story to tell than the KM days.Hope again that I can hang long enough to bear some of the fruits.

Jubimer stated

"Bramson has made happen everything he has alluded to in previous letters."

I agree, he has acted and produced exactly what was in the letter,

both good and bad.

The good from the 1998 shareholders letter

"Looking to the future, the initial stage of our acquisition plan is to create a group of businesses in the digital image field that provide services as well as equipment. In particular, we are considering the acquisition of a web hosting company since, although it is not possible today to offer good quality video on the Internet, this could change as the availability of bandwidth increases. This is an area that could offer opportunities for companies like Ampex that have digital video know-how."

and

"We are actively looking at a number of additional acquisitions and investments that may be finalized this year. Initially, our approach is to look for opportunities that bring strategic benefits to us even though they may face management or financial challenges. If Ampex's stock price rises or if acquisition prices in general come down, I would expect to see us considering more aggressive transactions."

and bad from 1997 letter

"While pursuing growth, we will not divert attention from our existing businesses. The chances are that revenues from our currently available products will decline in 1998, and so we intend to spend significantly more on marketing programs and on the roll-out of new products than we did last year. We may also price more aggressively, which could reduce margins. We will work hard to maintain and increase earnings in 1998, but it will not necessarily be an easy year in which to do so."

The 1999 shareholder letter should shed some light, light I am sure we will see come about, everything else has. This is an exciting time to be in Ampex because they have been straightforward with us in the past and will continue to be. I do not know of any other internet company, or for that matter, not many other companies that have produced according to shareholder's letters like Ed has. It is hard to predict what is coming, both good and bad, but Ed has done it in the past.

It should be out next week, according to NAB Ampex folks.
This could be fun.
