Lynn,

There has been a recent influx of new aliases on SI. Many of these people are just ordinary folks. However, quite a few are not ordinary. I believe that many of them are professional touts, and a number are amateur touts representing their own interests. Quite a number of these people have been "casually" dropping in on Daniel Miller and Phatt Matt's threads, and I don't think it's coincidental. These people see some very young, and very inexperienced kids here, and these kids have a following, a following that can be easily fleeced.

Be very careful of who you listen to on the BB threads, and verify everything they say. If it can't be verified (for example telephone calls), disregard it. I saw a good analogy on another thread the other day. It went something like this. Imagine that this stock you're interested in is a bus. Yeah, you'd like to catch this bus, but if you miss it, no big deal. There's another one that comes along in ten minutes. Don't be afraid to miss an investment opportunity because you're not prepared. These touts rely heavily on the premise that you're unsure of facts surrounding the company, and they're more than willing to give you tainted "facts". And then they play on the emotion of greed, if you don't buy now you'll miss the opportunity of a lifetime. Remember, there is only one reason to tout a stock, and that's because the touter is looking for someone to sell to. Touters are not long term investors. They're out for short term profits, and they don't care at whose expense.
