Free auctions may still be the ultimate outcome. EBAY controls the person-to-person auction market so it controls the pricing. But the jury is still out on this one, because the market is immature - nobody can be sure what the standard auction business model will be even a year from now.

Yahoo auctions now total over 200,000, up 108% for the year. I know, I know, nobody is really buying or selling over there. They apparently keep listing auctions on yahoo because it passes the time.
