every business.

> I AM THINKING ABOUT SHORTING AOL IN THE WAKE OF THE ATT CABLE DEAL

AOL won't be "crushed" - that's a rather simplistic and naive assumption.

AOL isn't in the same biz as ATHM or AT&T. Sure, they both provide internet access, but so do a lot of folks. And the standards will be increased at a furious rate over the next few years. Today's cable could become tomorrow's 300 baud modem.

What AOL has is content and a portal that attacts users. Someone posted a link earlier by an analyst that thought AOL will probably make a deal with ATHM or AT&T. And why not - it would be an excellent way to offer content and community. AT&T doesn't want to deal with users - they just provide the wire.

Bottomline...AOL will surprise you. They will be accessible via DSL and cable. They will rise right along with the technology.

I am following the Bull Market Report and looking at the 12 month target of 120. I will put a sell limit over current market and sell on the runup. I will look for a dip to get back in. Just my personal strategy.

NTF2, pleeease short AOL. Pleeeease. However it is better if you do it on, or before tuesday when the price of the stock will be the highest in order for one to have the maximum gain. I think it's a great idea,

By 2002, only 20 percent will have broadband (PC Magazine)
The current issue of PC Magazine (Vol 18 No 10 May 25 1999, pg 10)writes in the section "FAST INTERNET FOR A FEW" that "By 2002, only 20 percent of U.S. households will access the Internet via broadband connections, say market research firm Jupiter Communications. Of the high speed connections cable modem will outpace DSL.)"
The vast majority of users will continue to use modem connections. IMHO, it looks like AOL has several more years of great growth.I believe that "Web Phones" (featured in Business Week,May 3 1999 page 170) will bring more new users to the Web that cable modem. For example, cell phones are much more widely used by teenagers in Europe than in the US. Web phones should more "way cool."

ps: I'm long on AOL, LU, NOK. I've also hedged my bet by buying ATHM.

E-commerce duel shaping up

Hewlett-Packard and the Sun-Netscape Alliance will make dueling e-commerce announcements tomorrow, underscoring the fact that HP's once-strong alliance with Netscape has gone sour as arch-rival Sun begins to play a dominating role.

Sun and America Online will outline their strategic direction for the former Netscape suite of e-commerce software, with a new emphasis on partnerships to extend its homegrown capabilities, Sun-Netscape alliance executives said. The duo also will name 17 partners in several categories to put substance behind the strategy.
