Thanks for your very thorough reply. Much appreciated. You raise many good points, but I guess everyone realizes that exposing company's work to the public is the equivalent of dropping your pants and showing your goods to the world. It's very easy for anyone then to duplicate the algorithms especially if they don't have patent protecion. I guess it's a catch-22. Changing the subject, have you ever heard of a Canadian company called Certicom certicom.ca They use Elliptic Curve encription, which you mentioned in that article. I wouldn't mind getting your opinion on these guys. I should add that Certicom has Paul Allen's Vulcan Ventures (Microsoft co-founder) as a sizable investor. Thanks.
