In my opinion this whole discussion boils down the degree and circumstance of a lie.Would you be ashamed to admit that you told a child that there was a santa clause or tooth fairy?The issue of lying is one of proportion and circumstance.As an astute scientist you must be able to make this differentiation.It is the conditions that determine the acceptable behaviour,not the absolute facts.Would it be wrong to lie if you were tortured?
