>>>>even the 1.5M service is not Aware.<<<< Oh really...what about this????????

" Aware pioneered the development of a variant of ADSL known as DSL-Lite or G.lite. DSL-Lite technology delivers data transmission speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps downstream and up to 512 kbps upstream. The significance of Aware's splitterless DSL-Lite technology, which is DMT based, is that it has been designed for easy, low-cost deployment and removes the need for a voice-data splitter at every user site. The elimination of the voice-data splitter solves a major deployment bottleneck, the telephone company truck-roll, thereby helping to speed the deployment of DSL services. DSL-Lite is the technology that will enable an integrated PC modem solution for high-speed Internet access over existing phone lines."

Excerpt below on Nigel Cole, co-developer of 2B1Q algorithm who now works for Orckit, from Orckit's web site under "management" button.

< Nigel Cole, Vice President Business Development, North America

Mr. Cole received his B.Sc.E.E. (1984) with first
class honors from Essex University in England.
Mr. Cole has over 15 years experience in
communications systems. Prior to his coming
to the USA in 1995, Mr. Cole spent 11 years
with British Telecom Laboratories in the UK,
where he was Head of Copper, Radio and
Satellite Systems. He has extensive experience
with xDSL technology and trials. In 1986, he
was a member of the team that proposed the
original 2B1Q line code that was adopted world
wide for both ISDN and HDSL. In 1993, he
played a key role in establishing Europe's first
ADSL interactive network services technology
trial and later a marketing trial. >

I will be happily and entirely out of awre soon after 2 years of patience. I listened to the edited conf. call. They edited out the Q&A and left in the hype. I must admit the CEO is quite a hypster -- he could probably sell a Ford Pinto to Cybil Shepperd. Quite a contrast with the technically loaded Orckit crew. Hey whatever works -- he makes a good counter weight to Ken Goldman of ATMH who also doesn't have a clue about DSL. OTOH, I wouldn't mind if ORTC gets a fraction of the hype at AWRE, and I think some of it is rubbing off.
