AmyJ, How about "key" servers?

Thanx for the response.

Are you talking about "key" servers. That is, local software looks to the internet for the application key, software is enabled, user uses the software for a period of time, closes software and they are sent a bill.

Lots of questions...What happens if the user forgets to log out? Is this attractive to prevent piracy? Would it cause too many administration headaches? Could this be a more profitable software revenue model, or would they refuse to offer it because it would cut into their profit streams? (I tend to think the latter.) Would this model allow software to still qualify in corporate depreciation schedules, or would it be expensed? Hmmm... may have to increase my holdings in VeriSign ;)

This model also reminds me that electric power was first locally produced until the advent of alternating current. So, MIPS plants? Storage plants?

Just my opinion.

Jon :)
