Sunburn? The best remedy I know is pure aloe as administered by a Jamaican "salesman" outside a Chinese restaurant in Montego Bay. Hope that helps.

Seriously, get some aloe gel. It's the only thing I've found that brings me any relief, although it's not much. This is what I offer, it's available for free. : )

Interesting post on IVDO. I feel like I'm standing on the edge of a diving board with that one, just waiting to dive in. You know which stock it kind of reminds me of? PVII. Really, really big things could happen with it, and I'm uncomfortable not owning it.

Anyone see A@P on the Discovery Channel last night? Fascinating...

Anyone have a good remedy for sunburn?

Jane's suggestion for pure aloe is good. In fact, some cooks keep
an aloe plant in the kitchen for grease burns on theirs hands
or arms.

Lacking that, a remedy this quick-burning redhead has used
many times is tea bags. Dampen with just enough hot tap water
to make them swell up, but not so wet that they drip a lot.

Place them on the badly burned areas for a few minutes at a time.
Replace with unused ones after a while.

The tannic acid acts like a drawing salve, I guess, and can
reduce a lot of the pain and the swelling that tightens the skin
and makes it hurt worse.

Two warnings: the tea can stain your skin somewhat. Also
anything else it drips on, so use an old towel to protect
your clothes, bedding etc.

Those family size tea bags work well because they cover more space
at once and the tea is chopped finer.

The thing you should be worrying about is your actual eyes. Sounds
like you burned them, too. The fine top layer of tissue that covers
the whites and cornea <sp?> can peel and cause all sorts of
problems, if not just god-awful discomfort. You might want to
call an opthmologist ASAP. Maybe if they extend professional
courtesy, you could get a call back today.

I feel your pain<g>

Chris, Before treating the sunburn you have to alleviate the pain, for which Mt Gay rum with lime taken internally at regular intervals is the preferred treatment. After that, if it's REALLY serious get silvadene cream, but you need an Rx. That's probably overkill, as it's more for fire-type burns. Vitamin E cream available at health-food type stores is good. It's also good to apply cold (ice pack) to decrease inflammation and tenderness, for hours at a time if you can stand lying on your back like that. Then moisturize with Madlys aloe, or Vitamin E, or whatever. Don't use any products with benzocaine. Those are some thoughts from my sister, who puts together our medical kit on the boat.

Hope you heal quickly...
Max

Chris, my wife said to tell you to use Dr. Tichenor's antiseptic. Keep the area moist with it, and it will really work well to relieve the pain and all else associated with sunburn. You can buy it at drug stores and supermarkets (here in the south). My family has used it for years for everything, but it burns like h*ll on an open wound. It also is the best mouthwash in existence - but don't use it straight for that - mix it 1/5 with water. I gargled with it straight one time when I was in a hurry for an appointment....voice went from baritone to Irish tenor for about three hours. Also, don't get it in your eyes, or you'll wish they were only sunburned....ggg
Hope all goes well for you.
