3Com® Announces in talks with INTEL CORP.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - March 23, 1999 — 3Com Corporation, a global networking leader, today acknowledged that it has had recent talks with INTEL management that have escalated due to recent downward movements in the company's stock price. Although a deal may, or may not be in the works, traders see the acknowledgement as a high probability now with the recent annouoncements out of the chip making giant about a home networking division, and the decline of 3COMS stock. "..I speculated regarding 3COM's 4th quarter revenue and a downward surprise triggering a suitor. If a deal is consumated between the two companies, I feel INTEL will really have to make the deal sweet for the 3COM shareholders. INTEL, on the other hand, would be positioned best of the tech stocks." said Gordon McFreedy, analyst with MRT equity, Inc.
