Good point, Rudedog
But what's wrong with being 100% dependant on PC business, when your direct model works best, when you only have 8% of global market, and are closing in fast. Dell will eventually will the war of the box makers, this was why IBM formed a strategic alliance with Dell.
And besides, Dell is making great inroads into other areas such as the server market, which proves you are investing in a supremely honed direct model, as much as in a company. Today PC's, tomorrow, who knows. No question Cpq is a much deeper company with many more product lines, but then again, so is MOT and MO. Ultimately the market is interested in huge earnings growth and its predictability, and I think that is easier to achieve when you are focused and excel in one niche or product line.
