Len, you get no argument from a person who in her rooftop garden cultivated native and heirloom varieties of plants as part of the effort to keep them alive and vibrant.

The difficulty is, how do we deal with unknowing introductions in the past. Such as the ones mentioned in the article, such as the mongoose in Hawaii, such as the starling in the Northeast?

Also, and this has been addressed only in passing on this thread, what about the species whose adaptations have reached what may be a limit--species that are programmed to die off when their specialized adaptations are no longer useful--thinking specifically about humans as an interesting part of the hominids?
