George, you do not have to banish yourself from the thread for dissing Terrence. You just have to promise to try to be a good boy! Personally, the more "Mensa" this thread gets, the more uncomfortable I get. I think a thread should certainly have wonderful, educated, very bright people on it, and be interesting. But a really dynamic thread should also be a place where the less well educated and non-mentally gifted sectors of the SI population feels comfortable, and it should occasionally be silly. You shouldn't have to do research every time you post, in my opinion. There is an intellectual combativeness which I find stimulating sometimes, but certainly it is easily overdone at the same time. I deliberately make friends with people who are a very mixed group intellectually because all brains and no mindless fun are not a good balance in life. Sometimes I just like to laugh. I also think people who have approached life in other ways besides sixteen-plus years of schooling can be fascinating, and have much of value to offer.
