Sounds totally cool if they ever get it working.

Right now I am trying to solve an IRQ problem in Win98. My Zip drive is on one of those PCI parallel cards and it reports as IRQ 10 in windows and LTP2 at IRQ 5 in DOS but is not detected according to MSD. Of course IRQ 5 is what the scanner card is on (HP legacy). Mouse is on IRQ 4, comm 1. I can change the PCI parallel port card address but it tells me nothing about IRQ's which I guess are handled by the PCI.

So if I were to change either the scanner or the card what is the best IRQ to change it to? It will have to be another device that does not mind. Timer? KYBD? 1 to 15 are either reserved or taken.

The way I found out the conflict since my zip drive is not detected was to install a tape drive on the port and boot. That was were the conflict came in. Before the alternate device was plugged in, no conflict was present but the system would not assign drive letters to the zip drive.

The tape drive on LPT1 and the scanner work fine together.

I hate problems where it seems the only way out is to change hardware. If I go IDE or SCSI with the zip it might solve things.

Always back up your hard drive before making system changes. (repeat 100 times)

Well la big disk crash. Yet again. Will never trust a piece of software again as long as I. Linux was wiped too. I get set to back up la disk after upgrading la system and woe and beholden I go fer walk and come back to a froze systemo. I reboot and no more C drive. I try to boot Linux and it will not get to Lilo. I look with partition magic and no more partition drive.

What would wipe Linux and borg? A bios bug? CIH virii?

Linux reports a system with the first part of the partition higher cylinder than the last. Sounds like a partition mixer bug.

Could it have been electrical?

One symptom was my D drive started filling up just before the backup. I emptied some files and it filled up again. (It had only a few megs left) I figured it was an artifact of the tape backup system, some kind of temp file thing, so I ignored it.

So I back in business. sans wheel mouse and win 98. I figure if that got me there I stay with early borg and take my lumps.

Still haven't got Applix to play with yet. all my Linux files were lost as I had no back up for Linux.
