Broadcom (BRCM:Nasdaq) set plans to buy fellow networking equipment maker
Epigram for about $316 million. The company expects to use Epigram's
technology to provide broadband access and high-speed connections between a
variety of home electronics appliances.

In an interview with Reuters after Ericsson's (ERICY:Nasdaq ADR)
shareholders' conference, CEO Sven-Christer Nilsson said the Swedish
company is ready to make a push for the pole position in the world mobile
phone market. (Ericsson is currently the world's third-largest mobile-phone
maker, behind Nokia (NOK:NYSE ADR) and Motorola (MOT:NYSE) .) Nilsson said
that such a goal "will take some time," but that the company is ready to
beef up with acquisitions. Nilsson also noted that Ericcson will likely
eliminate as many as 11,600 jobs worldwide as part of its restructuring, up
from the 10,000 job cuts that it estimated last year.

Mexican telecom Telmex (TMX:NYSE ADR) is planning to issue debt on the
international market to help it fund new acquisition opportunities,
according to the newspaper Reforma, which cited Adolfo Cerezo, the
company's financial director. TSC examined Telmex's capital structure in a
recent article.

Lucent Technologies (LU:NYSE) announced that it has inked a $150 million
contract to expand Taiwan's KG Telecom's network.
