Everything went down-hill after they bought Cray. NT stealing workstation business has also hurt dramatically; things are changing with the NT line though. Even though SGI has N-WAY servers they're not perceived in the market as a strong UNIX vendor; HP-UX, DGUX, and Solaris are the top proprietary iron vendors right now.

I see things only as getting dangerously worse with Linux, n-way intel boxes (profusion) on the scene and a potentially scalable server OS from MSFT.

I too would like to hear from long SGI investors on the future outlook ?

Opal April, I cannot answer your question as to "what went wrong", except that I see a lot of different factors, with maybe the only thing in common being the old management.

However, I would like to ask you one thing. Why do you believe that especially with the Internet craze their prospects should be rosy? What is the connection that you see between SGI and the Internet?
