John,

There's a CNBC critique thread here at CNBC with the REAL Ted David of CNBC monitoring the thread and occasionally responding to posts there.

Perhaps he might be interested in the IDC / Dataquest results.

John, CNBC blowing smoke in CPQ's eyes may have actually helped (painful as it was short term). Who was going to tell CPQ different, their upset resellers?

''The early rumblings we heard from Compaq indicate that they misread the slow start (in the quarter) and believed it was an industry issue,'' Dataquest's Stremba said.
''It continued to be slow for Compaq where other vendors moved aggressively on pricing actions and stimulated the market more, particularly following (Intel Corp.'s) PIII launch.''
