If you want a lesson on how fast cash can disappear take a look at Minorca. MAR had $69 million and no debt last year ($1.80/share in cash). They never sold above $1.30 and were selling below cash right up to the end. Last Oct they merged with McWatters on the basis of 0.555 of MCW for each MAR which worked out to .60/share for MAR. MCW is now at .30 which means a company that was worth $1.80/share one year ago is now worth .16.
