Office Max is very poorly run relative to Office Depot. Wall Street knows it. Everything from quality of management to quality of new hires at the customer-interaction level. Office Depot and Staples
are leading the charge to automatic online ordering systems for
corporate customers, while Office Max lagged. It is viewed as a
laggard in a business where innovation and leadership are requisite for success, so it deserves to be discounted relative to the other two. How much, I'm not sure. But I wouldn't buy the stock.
