the mechanism by which proteins within cells are selected and
"marked" for removal and destruction after they have done
their job.

Further reading about the difficulty in cancer trials and the trials that resulted in the FDA approval of Genentech's Herceptin:

All in all, a pretty good and quick read. Most people reading this thread realize that Herceptin is a humanized mAb that is successful in treating her-2/neu overexpressing breast cancers.
