<"Slated for release early in 2000 for the 64-bit Alpha platform, the 64-bit
Windows 2000 operating system will trump the Intel version in the data center by
adding features such as scalability and fault-tolerance - capabilities">

And the reason why these scalability and fault-tolerance capabilities can't be
featured on an SHV Merced Windows 2000 is ...

Tench,

That is a very good question... and I am not sucking up here.
Might want to ask yourself a couple of questions:

Are these capabilities tied to hardware or software?

That one is easy to answer.

What are these capabilities that won't be added to a Merced platform?

That one is hard to answer.

I am pretty sure I know the answer to the second question, can't
say though. One of the capabilities won't show up
in Merced at all. After all, if you intend to push Alpha you
better have some key differentiators, wouldn't you say?
