Hutch - you've actually given me an answer!! - of a sort - actually you've given me a real answer - because the plain truth here is that you can't answer my question about deflation - because there hasn't actually been a deflation in North America since the 30's. Yet you continue, on this thread, and GPM, to make statements to this effect 'as I always say, gold does better in a period of deflation rather that in an inflationery period' Where's the proof? There ain't none. At least you replied publicly -rather than in an abusive private mode. As you know we've had periods of disinflation, and I guess we must have been going though such a period in recent years - and as you have pointed out so many times gold doesn't appear to be going anywhere, so it doesn't appear to do well in a deflationary environment either.

It used to be that rising gold prices were said to be a harbinger of inflation - a leading indicator.

I have no hang-ups about Ole 49er - where ARE you Rose? dd
