Tim Mc: Came up w/same conclusion. LU will be looking for acquisitions if they want to grow. Their goal is to be 50/60billion dollar business. (sorry no time frame...maybe8-10years) Nonetheless,LU can't reach this goal without buying a company or companies that can generate cash now. 3com could be a step to that goal. As you know, LU would sell weak divisions and keep the best divisions of 3COM.

In my opinion, 3COM could start dividing the company NOW or tailor itself for a buyout. Of course, the best parts would go to LU since they can afford it. The other divisions could be sold to Ericson/nok/seimens/alcatel.

If merger is done before dividing the company,as you mentioned, LU would get rid of the access biz. This would be a form of generating cash. In short, your conclusion is right on. Later. Al
