Hi Bill; What happened with me is I did fair picking stocks,
actually got to were I was beating the indexes.
However even before that I knew that most stocks acted in sympathy with any big market moves and for the longest time I wanted to make bets when the general market was not going to undo me so market
timing had it's merit.
Then I found time constraints didn't let me do
both or at least I couldn't do both the way I thought they
needed to be done.
Last I keep watching that NDX and said to
myself "that's" one index you haven't beat..& it's a real
runner. So in march when they started trading the QQQ I shifted
my focus to it , along with the spiders.
It's a lot more relaxing having a "basket" & not near the anxiety
of trading stocks at least for me. Also the cost of trading
10 - 20 stocks and or options is a lot more than buying a basket
and taking a bet on 50 or more with one $12 commission.
But I do think a person has to find what works for them and one
size don't fit all people.

I'v lost interest in picking stocks, but every once and a while
one will still catch my eye. Thing is it seems if I start tracking
it then my sector abilities fall off. So it's a time thingy and
with to much looking around I can get too much in my hand to get it
out of the cookie jar.

I haven't got that darn QQQ down pat as well as I want to
as of yet, but that's my main goal. It and the DIA, after I get
real comfortable with them , then I'll move on to the option part on
them , they do have options, but I'm positive one needs to be
dam good at trading the underlining issue before using that
kind of leverage as options do have in a heavy premo that can
eat you alive if your not right.

As it is I can leverage 50% with out a big premo. and on the
short side without any as long as my short account stays in the
black.
