SGI to Resell EMLX Hubsbiz.yahoo.com Emulex Announces OEM Agreement With SGI: SGI to Resell Fibre Channel Hub Industry's First Digital Re-Timing Hub Provides Superior Loop Performance and High Availability COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 1999--Emulex Corp. (Nasdaq:EMLX - news), a leader in digital fibre channel products and technology, Monday announced an agreement with SGI (NYSE:SGI - news) to OEM the Emulex LightPulse(TM) LH5000 Digital Fibre Channel Hub. The Fibre Channel Hub will enable multi-node SGI(TM) Failsafe2.0 clustering solutions and cost-effective SGI(TM) Storage Area Network (SAN) interconnect solutions. ''SGI selected the LightPulse LH5000 Digital Fibre Channel Hub for its unmatched port density and signal integrity made possible by its digital technology,'' said Anne Vincenti, director Storage & Network Marketing, Computer Systems Business Unit for SGI. ''The LH5000 provides a unique combination of features to deliver the loop performance and availability our customers are demanding. Additionally, the LH5000 is capable of isolating faults that can disrupt loop operation, and can correct faults that may otherwise result in system downtime,'' she added. ''We are pleased that SGI has chosen the LH5000 to be part of its high availability and SAN solutions. SGI is a leader in delivering high-performance systems, and it continuously looks for ways to raise the bar. With this announcement, Emulex is positioned to expand our OEM customer base with its digital hub technology,'' said Mike Smith, senior director of fibre channel marketing for Emulex. Using the Emulex NL_Port ASIC technology in its digital hub architecture, the LH5000 eliminates signal jitter and provides automatic clock speed matching on every port. As a result, LH5000 hubs can be cascaded, providing flexibility in network design and increasing potential cabling distances. The LH5000 can also be programmed to provide automatic LIP insertion, LIP F8 bypass, automatic bypass and check character integrity. The LH5000 also provides management statistics on a per port basis, including number of invalid transmission words, bit error rate and port down counts. Management of the LH5000 is provided via an HTML interface, compatible with most standard Web browsers, providing easy access to the hub status via a friendly GUI interface. An SNMP compliant management agent is included which interprets, acts upon and replies to any SNMP request directed to its IP address. In addition to both the web manager and SNMP agent, a Command Line Interface is available via login to either the telnet or Ethernet port. The LH5000 is configured with a total of 10 fibre channel compliant ports in one half the width of a standard 1-u high 19-inch rack enclosure, making it the highest density managed hub available. This port density enables a multi-node (up to 8 nodes) SGI Failsafe2.0 cluster to seamlessly take over the workload of a failed node, thus enhancing application availability while minimizing the impact to application performance. Placing two LH5000 units side by side on the optional rack mounting kit, it is possible to provide 20 managed fibre channel ports in a standard 1-u rack slot. In addition to the Emulex branded LH5000 DHub(TM), which is available in both copper and GBIC versions, Emulex's broad family of fibre channel product offerings address the needs of both mission-critical enterprise applications and direct connect storage links. Emulex is also the leading OEM supplier of full duplex PCI fibre channel adapters with a large installed base of LP8000, LP850, LP7000/E, LP6000/E and LP3000 customers.
