Bobby - a long time back on the other thread I pointed out that gold - actually gold stocks - benefitted from deflation in the 1930s. Gold was pegged at $35/ounce officially until 1971. The famous case of a gold stock doing well in the 30s was Homestake and there must have been others - and there is a web site somewhere which shows this - I may have it bookmarked somewhere.(I do:
gold-eagle.com But all of this happened over 60 years ago - so to say -and for Hutch to say (someone still in his 30s) that gold 'always does well in a period of deflation' seems to be stretching things somewhat!! We've had inflation of one degree or another since WW1 - so that is all most of have known in our adult lives. In my opinion gold might do well if we have another period of deflation - heaven help us - but one can't be sure - but Hutch is always sure - that's why he is so endearing?.

As for getting amusement at other's expense I do hope not - but I also hope there's some room for dry wit and irony - about which others have to be the judge. Thank God we're not on Kosovar on this thread - yet. dd
