Popular <POPU.SI> says no decision on Internet
SINGAPORE, April 26 (Reuters) - Singapore book retailer
Popular Holdings Ltd said on Monday it has not decided when an
Internet service would be launched amid market speculation.
"The directors ... wish to clarify that although the
company has plans for an Internet service, this is still at an
initial stage," the company said in a statement.
It said it has not decided when an Internet service would
be launched. "However, it is unlikely to be launched in the
near future," the statement said.
Shares in Popular Holdings hit a year high last week of
S$0.61 on speculation that it planned to start a Singapore
version of Amazon.com <AMZN.O>, a Seattle-listed Internet book
and music retailer.
The company's shares ended at $0.515 on Monday.
