Stuart,

Well, we had lots of sun on the weekend, but it was cold and very windy around here. I decided to delay my first canoe trip of the year in favour of working in my gardens (another favourite pursuit). I'm hoping for warmer weather before the weekend. If it happens, I'm outta here!

I checked in my "canoe files" and found a copy of a Swift canoe catalogue. The Kipawa looks very nice indeed. The Expedition Kevlar is listed at 49 lbs so you should be able to leap along through the portages carrying your canoe with little more effort that wearing a baseball cap...(-:

..now all you have to do is "wait" for the new canoe to arrive. That might be the toughest part of all...

Later,
Croc

Stuart,

Well, we've been enjoying some great weather here. This morning was the "inaugural trip" for the Summer of '99... (-:

Went on a 2 hour trip up my favourite local creek. Lots of eastern painted turtles, muskrat, Mallard ducks and red-winged blackbirds. It was as near a perfect day as I could have imagined.

One concern though... it's been an extremely dry spring here. Apparently it's the driest spring since 1941. I can't believe the water levels... really low already. More like August than the first of May. This seems rather worrisome considering the fact that some of the local creeks had very low water levels by July last year. Is it much the same in your area? I guess the one consolation is that they say the mosquitoes won't be a patch on last year...although I just saw a blackfly hovering over my computer a minute ago. We live next to a pine forest and the odd one gets into the house to terrorize us...(-:

Well, this is too nice a day to be spent indoors. Back out to work in the gardens.
Later,
Croc
