I did not get the Times since I was out of town this weekend so missed the article. What she is missing is that IBM is the one company who can truly claim the title of being the Internet Company. Everything the Internet requires, IBM sells. They occupy every space and where they dont sell into it directly with a proprietary product they have partnered with someone so they can always provide the total solution. It is a very powerful position to be in. The most common topic among company's BODs is what does the Internet and E@Commerce mean to us and how do we participate in it and the most common conclusion is "lets call IBM and find out what they have to say".
