GEC spurts up as market approves Fore buy
LONDON, April 26 (Reuters) - Shares in General Electric (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: GEC.L) shot ahead four percent as the market stamped its approval on GEC's $4.5 billion purchase of Fore Systems (FORE - news).

GEC shares hit 604-1/2 pence and were trading 21-1/2p higher at 600-1/2p by 1501 GMT, having traded around 584p just ahead of the news.

''The market's bullish on it because they've done a deal at last and the market likes activity,'' said one leading engineering analyst.

''Also this takes them into new Internet and data transfer technology and away from the old technology. That's a good move,'' he said.
