Undoubtedly some IBM box can beat some SUNW box according to some metric.

JMHO.

"...I heard the new IBM box beat the SUNW box on some "web"
benchmark ? "

oh...funny you would catch that one. In the same time span i believe that Sun released the best OLTP benchmark beating HP's recently released number by about 20% which is a more impactful benchmark. All benchmarks are just a game of leapfrog anyway so I dont give any of them too much weight.

as far as Specweb goes - it's nice that IBM has some good numbers now if only there were some internet applications which ran on AIX - like those fron inktomi, broadvision and any decent ecommmerce software which wasnt ported over from the S/390 or come from Lotus. Now that would have a significant impact on the 4 cpu web server market.
