Jodie,

One of the kids in the "trench-coat mafia" was interviewed a couple of days ago. He said there was "a lot of hatred" between the two groups. He said that the "jocks" would continuously taunt them and even throw bottles at them. And, it probably was all reciprocated.

It is so sad that this behavior is allowed. Children have even committed suicide because of the way they had been treated at school. I specifically remember some little boy in Florida a few years back. He was overweight and the kids would tease him unmercifully. I think I remember he hung himself and he was only about 11-12 years old!

I'm just wondering if that parent in Littleton who contacted the police attempted to talk to that shooter's parents. Would it have made a difference?

My daughter by sheer coincidence witnessed a child being molested by another older child sometime ago. By the time she realized exactly what she was seeing and by the time she reached the scene, they both had left. She contacted the police, who did almost nothing. Then, encouraged by me, she went to the parents of the little boy who had been molested. She was met with a lot of indifference and a very passive attitude by the parents of the little boy. Unfortunately, there was little else my daughter could do. (I'm in a different state or I would have gone w/her.) She was very upset and someday would like to be a counselor to try to help kids like this.

I don't know why people find such happiness in seeing other people suffer. Maybe tv/movies have made us a little too hard; watching so much violence and this violence appearing so real! Years ago when someone was shot in a movie, there was no sign of blood anywhere, no gapping holes, etc.
