Compaq Deskpro to Introduce Celeron 466 MHz with New Chipset

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 1999-- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ - news) today announced the availability of the new Prosignia Desktop 320 family equipped with the new Intel Celeron 466 MHz processor, featuring Intel's high-speed Socket 370 technology and a slim micro ATX form factor.

Compaq Deskpro PCs with the Celeron 466 MHz processor will be available later this quarter with the new Intel 810 chipset. This offering, joining Celeron systems already in the Deskpro line, will provide commercial customers with a consistent value platform that will deliver both a longer lifecycle and all the price-performance advantages of the new 810 chipset, including integrated graphics and audio, as well as faster bus speed support for future-generation Celeron processors.

Prosignia Offers Latest Technology Now

Designed for immediate, out-of-the-box productivity, Compaq Prosignia desktops include a suite of pre-installed software applications, including Microsoft Office Small Business Edition, Symantec Norton AntiVirus; and access to Compaq Online Services. The new Prosignia 320 with 466 Mhz Celeron processor price starts at $1,315 with a 17'' monitor (15.7'' viewable). Lease prices start at $45 per month.(a)

The new Prosignia Desktop 320 offers hard drives up to 18 GB, a maximum of 256 MB of RAM and 32X Max or 52X TrueX CD-ROM drives. The new micro ATX space-saving chassis design provides ease of configuration and services. Customers can choose the latest audio/video and communications solutions, including Sound Blaster Audio PCI 128v, STB/nVidia TNT 3D AGP graphics and 3Com's 10/100 NICs. Prosignia desktops are protected by a three-year limited warranty.

Customers can configure and buy Prosignia products and services directly from Compaq through its DirectPlus website at directplus.compaq.com, by calling 800/888-9909 or from a local Compaq Authorized Reseller/direct marketer. Beginning in June 1999, this and other Prosignia products will be available in selected retail outlets.
