I tried to login to the E-Schwab site. All means of
access are down. The Tele-Broker system is down and to make things
even less unfriendly, you can't reach'm from anywhere.

I've seen various articles saying that Schwab and E*Trade are
the biggest e-brokers, and they get a lot of press. Rarely do I
see Datek Online datek.com mentioned. But the commisions
for trading with Datek cost about 1/2 of what they do with others.
Do a little comparison and see for yourself. There's no quota on
real-time quotes either. Their margin rates and interest rates
compare favorably. I have been using Datek for a long time
and I haven't had any significant problems (so far), only the
occasional slow response in the crush of market opening orders.
I suppose that sooner or later Datek will also suffer a crash,
but it hasn't happened yet.
