Kevin, Elmer, Jim Re <<regained market share>>

Ottelini said that Intel regained all market share in the sub $1000.00 computer. It seems to be true but the statement is misleading. Here is why,

Last year's sub $1000 PC is this year's sub $600 PC. Last year Intel had a substantial majority of the market share in the $1000 to $1500 market. That segment has moved down to the sub $1000 now! Intel has not by any stretch of imagination regained the entire market share it lost. No one ever said this! Due to decreased ASP's, Intel PII's are now in the sub $1000 market. These PII as well as the Celerons existing in the sub $1000 computers allow Intel to have about the same market share at it did in the past. The fact is that currently AMD holds about a 15% market share. Last year it was less than 10%. Intel does not dispute this at all.

I mentioned this few days ago but I guess it got lost in the "vegetarian elephant" discussion.
