Sasktel Purchases 3Com Remote Access Equipment to Expand Consumer and Business Dial-Up Access Accounts
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 1999--3Com® Canada today announced that based on its successful long-term business relationship with SaskTel, Saskatchewan's leading telecommunications provider, SaskTel will add several thousand 3Com® Total Control® HiPer(TM) Access System ports, valued at over U.S. $1 million, to its current network. 3Com's Total Control multi-service access platform enables telcos to offer industry-leading Internet solutions.

With the 3Com products, SaskTel will continue to develop innovative Internet networking tools to service both the business and consumer markets throughout 1999. 3Com has been an active supplier of SaskTel's consumer Internet access equipment, branded under the Sympatico name, since 1996.

''The flexibility, sizing and scalability of 3Com's Total Control solution is ideal for SaskTel's Canadian market, where customers are spread over a wide geographical area, mostly in smaller communities,'' said Irfan Ali, senior vice president and general manager, 3Com Carrier Systems. ''3Com's solution is ideal for SaskTel now, as well as for future expansion as we proceed towards the goal of converged networking.''

In addition to expanded dial-up access services, the 3Com equipment will support IP Telephony and fax-over-IP services, providing consumers and businesses more flexibility in their telecommunications.

3Com's award-winning Total Control multi-service access platform provides telecommunications carriers, service providers, and large enterprises a powerful and complete networking solution, including support for remote access, IP telephony, and virtual private networking applications. The platform is designed for service reliability, using redundant power supplies and modular application cards to prevent a single point of failure. In addition, its modular architecture supports hot-swapping of interface and application cards so that the system remains live and online, thus minimizing network downtime.
