Alan,

I don't know much about ADX so your comments are enlightening. However, the purpose of my post was to get some help in writing scans for QPS. My goal is to scan the database and create four lists:

1. 200-300 trending stocks,
2. 200-300 trading stocks,
3. 200-300 volatile stocks,
4. 200-300 unvolatile (or flat) stocks

I figured the scans would yield a random selection of stocks across many industry groups.

I planned to overlay indicators like ADX, DI, StochRSI, Stochastics, MACD, Aroon, OBV, etc. learn how effective (i.e. timely)each indicator is in identifying entry and exit points.

Hope this clarifies what I'm looking for. Thanks for your input.

Mike

Wouldn't average true range be a better volatility indicator, Alan?
