Earlie, can't resist answering your question with the obvious..

The market has figured out that it is the most profitable of the internet plays; haven't you?

Regards,

Don

I will try!!

First and foremost is that you have to realize the fundamental change that our economy has gone through. We no longer have a manufacturing driven economy. We have been rapidly moving towards a technology induced service oriented economy. And IBM is the prime example of this shift. It is no longer just a "mainframe" or "PC" manufacturer. It is a technology service company. IBM's increasing stock price and increasing P/E in the last 3 years is a reflection of this shift. As a matter of fact , I believe that IBM will warrant even a higher PE if it gets rid of the PC manufacturing unit altogether.

Frankly , the proclamations on IBM on this board(i.e., it is a scam, etc.) are a direct result of the mentality of those who have been left in the dust of a 7 year bull market. I am referringto a mentality of evaluating 90's technology and productivity with a 60's mentality. Go back and read the posts on this thread from only 6 months ago. That is 2300 dow points ago!!! not to mention the Nasdaq. How many thousands of dollars were lost on puts and shorts just in that short period of time?? I understand that Flenkestien(SP??) is one of the gurus of this board. Do you remember his debates with Joe Battapaglia when the market was at 8200 and he was predicting DOW 5000 in the short term only 6 months ago. How many thousands of dollars were lost since then?? At this rate would he have any money left to manage to call himself a money manager??!! And you call IBM , which has returned more than %50 to its investors since then a scam??!!

Either way, I wish you all doom and gloom fans good luck. It is a free country and you guys have every right to lose as much money as you wish.I normally don't even post on these boards and just recently registered on SI to post but I have been reading many threads on SI for a long time and my post was a little payback for some of the gloating posts from you guys on the Dell thread during those dark February days ( Yes , I am a long time Dell shareholder......I know I know..I should sell before my profits disappear..hehehe)and I find it a little funny when people spend days discussing why IBM is a scam when there are hundreds of bulletine board companies that are the real scams.

Good Luck
