Interesting questions....The information that you responded to was actually copied over from lazzzzer at the RB thread (I believe that was clear in my post); but, I hope that your questions will receive some intelligent responses from some of the folks on the RB thread. I personally no longer have time to weed through the RB thread with any consistency (every time I take a peek I have to sort through 500+ new messages).

MWS -- EPAC has been regarded for sometime as the format with the best sound quality -- although for obvious reasons others will claim theirs is better etc. The format that will win in the end -- may not be the one with the best sound quality -- but 1st and formost the format that does the best job of copyright protection while providing solid sound quality. There is also the reality of download time -- MPEG3 can take 20 to 30 miuntes to download a single title -- EPAC takes 6 to 8 minutes. The other component will be the ability of the device to be used in non-PC or handheld environs -- for example the Lucent/TI/EDIG device may come with an FM transmitter the signal of which will be picked up by your car's radio system. Forester is now projecting 12 million devices will be in consumer's hands within a year and 32 million by 2003. In my view MP3 has pioneered and opened up the market -- but will be hard pressed to dominate the market. EPAC is the better tech. One of the problems (great problem to have) is that because of the Lucent news people are focused almost soley on the music side of things with EDIG -- this is a mistake. EDIG's OS will be used in so many other devices and areas. Many of which will be far more lucrative.
